Strategies For A Successful One Book-One Community Experience
Ideas from Ronan

Make the Text Available:
Get the book in the hands of students and as many community members as possible.  The more people students see reading the book, the more interested they become.

bulletMultiple copies were made available for community members to check out or purchase at the local libraries.
bulletEach middle school student was given his or her own copy of the book (purchased with grant monies).

Publicize:
Get the word out so people know what is planned and that they're invited to be a part of it.

bulletNotices and information in the three local newspapers
bulletExplanation in the school newsletter
bulletSignboards in the community
bulletRadio Spots--Students read passages on local radio
bulletAuthor interview on local PBS station, SKTY
bulletCans decorated with flames placed at local businesses and filled with brochures about the activities planned
