-- Learning to fail can be the hardest lesson of all --

MOUNTAIN SOLO

A 2004-05 Texas TAYSHAS book
A 2005-06 Missouri Mark Twain Award master list nominee
A Booksense 76 choice

From the moment she picked up her first violin at three years old, Tess hasn't been like other kids.  A prodigy, her life is that of a virtuoso-to-be: constant training, special schools, and a big debut before an audience of thousands.  But at sixteen Tess throws it all away and departs the glamour of New York to join her father in Montana and lead a normal life--whatever that is.

Tess has hardly arrived when she is drawn into a mystery: a hunt for the lost homestead of a pioneer who played violin himself.  Maybe, though uncovering his story, Tess can find the inspiration to pick up her violin again.

______________

A heartbreaking glimpse into the world of musical genius, MOUNTAIN SOLO tells of the high cost of talent, and of staying true to oneself.

______________

--School Library Journal

--Kirkus Reviews
